Gwendolyn Mac Even

Gwendolyn Margaret MacEwen (1941 September 1 – 1987 November 29) kanadai költő és író.  "Kifinomult, széles látókörű, gondolagazdag íróként" több, mint 20 kötetet jelentetett meg. A varázslat és a misztérium van jelen műveiben, a gosztika, a régi Egyiptom és a varázslat iránti érdeklődése következtében, valamint az élet és halál kérdéseivel foglalkozik. Mindmáig Kanada legjobb költői között tartják számon.

Torontóban született. Édesanyja mentális egészségi problémákkal volt kórházakban, édesapja alkoholista volt.

Első versét 17 éves korában publikálta a Canadian Forum. 18 éves korára megírta első regényét, a Julian the Magician-t.

Első versesköte, a The Drunken Clock 1961-ben jelent meg Torontoban. Robert Weaver  szerkesztő és  Northrop Frye bátorították. Kapcsolatban volt  írókkal, költőkkel, mint James Reaney, Margaret Atwood, Dennis Lee. 149 évesen férjhez ment, majd két év után elvált.

Könyvei különböző műfajokban jelentek meg, mellettük rádió dokumentum drámákat, is írt.

Második férjével, a görög, zenész Niko Tsingossal a The Troian Horse kávéházat nyitották meg Torontóban 1972-ben. Tsingossal görög kortárs műveket fordítottak, héberül, arabul, görögül és franciául tanult meg olvasni, és fordított ezekről a nyelvekről. 1978-ban az ő fordításában mutatták be Torontóban Euripidész A Trójai Nők c. drámáját. 

Műveit kínaira, franciára, németre olaszra és magyarra is fordították.
